Fucking Asians

These last 48 hours have been pretty emotionally charged. And now this. I am mad enough about this to rant, but not mad enough to post comments on sites because that's just suicide.

A Korean actress is being threatened legal action because she refused to show up on set due to a number of factors including no time to sleep, bad work schedule, and differences with the producer.

It seems that the average person doesn't understand how much more suffering Asian entertainers go through than their American counterparts. It's simple. Speaking out is bad, expressing discontent is bad. You say one little utterance of displeasure and everyone is on you like a hound. Why have so many Korean entertainers killed themselves? Why do people become so blind with hatred over a drama being put on hold that they spite someone they don't even know with all their heart, that netizens flood a person's public homepage with messages and death threats? That actress has balls.

On top of that, working hours are crazy. We hear stories all the time about our favorite idols fainting, being underweight, only being able to consume sub-1000 calories while they are working, every day; dancing, singing, rehearsing, traveling. And we demand more? Who are the selfish ones now? The people who are sitting at their tables, seething because a celebrity is dating another celebrity while they munch on snacks galore, or the entertainers who survive on little to nothing and are still being called lazy asses?

And to those who say "they signed up for this, they should have known what was coming." No. Contracts are violated all the time. Entertainers are harassed and forced to work hours they did not sign up for. And no one does anything about it because of the underlying silent culture. Silence is wisdom, and all that Confucian shit that does not apply to an OCED country. This is why countries like Korea are so fascinating and messed up at the same time. The economy grows but the heart and minds of the people aren't catching up at the same pace. So, to stand up and say "no, I am not doing this anymore" is big. It is fucking big. No one does that shit, except in America. Asians aren't brought up that way. That's why confrontations or moments of people defending themselves are so emphasized in dramas. It's like, "Oh shit, oh no she didn't!"


No one, and I mean no one, has the right to judge someone in that kind of environment. The fact is, most of us would have surrendered and admitted defeat one month into that kind of lifestyle, if at all. For this, I give Han Ye Seul my full support. Go get em, girl!
