Etiquette For A...

First of all, the two tumblrs' titles are improperly capitalized. But that doesn't matter so much on the internet, unless you're posting a well researched article on the New Yorker.

What's interesting about these two tumblrs is that their content is quite different...

Etiquette for a Lady focuses on self-love, empowerment and generational wisdom.

Etiquette for a Gentleman focuses on not screwing girls over, expressing your innermost feelings and girls.

I find this rather disconcerting. It tells me that, the titles are misleading (and improperly capitalized!) because this has nothing to do with etiquette but rather personal and social behavior and mindsets. Etiquette is using a salad fork instead of a spoon to eat your fois gras, and shit. It also tells me that women need inspiring messages in order to love themselves, and that men need to stop treating women like toilet paper. It's a whole load of "you should do this, because this is what ladies/gentlemen do." This is another swipe at tumblr. It's all talk. No action. It says vindictiveness is a poison; forgiveness is the best medicine. How many people have reblogged that quote? How many of those people have actually applied it to their lives? My guess is close to none. But it makes us feel better, temporarily, because we see those messages and say "Amen sista! That is so true!" and we feel that we're actually empowering ourselves, becoming better people.

Maybe I'm just being old-school.
