I think the most touching moment about my trip to New York had nothing to do with New York, but two people we were traveling with. Both had "met someone" at the last (really really loud and wonderfully obnoxious) kickback. Everyone was drunk, hearts had already been hurt, and one guy and a girl from another choir had gone and locked their roommates out of the adjacent room to presumably get jiggy. And these two people, as much chemistry as they had with the someone they had gotten to know that night, had the restraint to not let themselves go... whatever letting go would have meant for them.
There was struggling, and pondering, and hair mussing, and wonderings to no one in particular about why it had to be this way, at this time. There was mutual reaffirmation with each other. "We've got significant others. We can't do that to them." I found it touching especially, just to see two people who clearly had a connection with or without the addition of alcohol, not create an ordeal with one moment of weakness. Wanting to do the right thing.
