On Becoming More Fob

here's some stuff i have said to people because i'm forgetting english and/or getting foreign language integration syndrome. i'm sure this happens all the time to people who already speak more than one language. my problem is that now it's with both cantonese and mandarin. you know how some things you just can't say them in english, or you have to really work your brain to remember the english name? now there's two instead of one to account for.

一瓶啤酒
买and sell
the concept is really 简单
it tastes 非常 good

塞車
毛巾

on another note, my feeling is that a problem with being abc, chinese-american, or whatever you call it, in China, is that you get the short end of the stick in almost all circumstances. when you're trying to find a part-time job, no one wants you because you look chinese even though your english is better than all the stupid white people. at the same time, they speak to you as if you're stupid because you can barely speak chinese. when you're with your friends, people assume because you're american you eat hamburgers all day, and have no idea how to navigate public transportation. at the same time, they expect you to know everything about chinese culture.

short end of the stick.
